Our Philosophy at HITS Theatre

Fall 2025 production of Beauty and the Beast JR
Since 1980, HITS Theatre has engaged youth in high-quality, performing arts education. We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and diverse environment that encourages all students to hone their gifts in a nurturing community that fosters creativity, confidence, collaboration, and social-emotional learning on and off stage.
Our philosophy is to use positive affirmations and a safe learning environment to:
• deliver professional arts training,
• enrich lives through cultural experiences and talent development, and
• provide a creative outlet for children regardless of their financial background.
Interested families are encouraged to read more about our classes and attend an upcoming show.
HITS is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that relies on the generous donations of our supporters. The Dana Lewis Scholarship Fund plays a crucial role in ensuring that children from diverse communities can participate in our theater programs.
We are located in historic Houston Heights, where we lead instruction and host performances throughout the year.
“Over the last 5 months Zoe has grown a greater love for Theatre because of HITS. She’s learned what hard work and effort can do. Zoe has shown extreme interest in taking this into her future and is dreaming about starring in Broadway productions. Being at HITS has not only encouraged her to be more bold and open but has given her the confidence to truly believe in herself and have a more can-do spirit about any obstacle she faces. We love being part of the HITS family.” – Alex Canales
“HITS Theater has been such a beautiful presence in our family’s lives. E. looks forward to seeing her HITS friends every week and we are so grateful for the assistance we have received.” – Jennifer Henderson
“HITS brings so much joy to Audrey. Thank you for a place where she can express herself in such a positive and productive way.” – Nellie McCollom
“HITS Theater is one of the best organizations in our community. They offer such a wonderful creative outlet for the children in our area and give their participants the opportunity to learn many things that the education system has difficulty providing. There was never a lack of enthusiasm from the teacher or the students because the program was the highlight of their day.
I am very grateful to have the opportunity to experience what HITS has to offer. My son has gained confidence and got to explore the many sides of his personality. It’s so nice to have such a great theater for kids in our community and for HITS to serve so many families. HITS is a true gem in the Heights!” – Patty McGrail
